Hawaiian Vacation

Kathy and I spent our vacation in Hawaii this year on the island of Oahu. After a 9-hour flight from St. Louis, we landed in Honolulu and headed for our hotel: the Hale Koa. The next day we headed out to the Dole Pineapple Plantation and ate plenty of pineapple and spent about 1 1/2 hours in the world's largest maze at the plantation. We also visited Schofield Barracks (an army base) and Hickam AFB. Hickam is the best Air Force Base I have ever seen with immaculate grounds. We spent a lot of time at the base during our vacation as the food and gas ($1.70/gallon) was cheaper than outside.

Here is a view from the Nuuanu Pali overlook. It is in the middle of the island overlooking the north central part of the island. Kailua is the coastal town in the far distance as well as the Marines Corp base which we visited on the last day. This was some of the most beautiful scenic places I've seen. We drove all around the island putting on over 900 miles on our rental car.

We also visited Bellows Air Force Station which is a military recreation area with many cabins and a beautiful beach. Kathy had to venture in the water and ended up falling in the water as a wave knocked her over. I have it on video and it's funny! The picture on the right is on Waikiki Beach. Waikiki means spouting waters.
